Nashville BirthNetwork

Group Description

MISSION The Nashville BirthNetwork is an alliance of individuals and organizations in Middle Tennessee with concern for the care and well-being of mothers, babies, and families. Our mission is to promote an evidence-based, wellness model of maternity care that will improve birth outcomes and substantially reduce costs. BirthNetwork National is leading a grassroots movement based on the belief that birth can profoundly affect our physical, mental and spiritual well-being. BirthNetwork National advocates Mother-Friendly care, as defined by the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI). By making informed choices and having confidence in the process, families can experience safe and satisfying childbirth. Nashville BirthNetwork is an official chapter of BirthNetwork National, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. PHILOSOPHY •Birth is a normal, healthy process, not an illness or disease. •Empowering births can take place in birth centers, hospitals and homes. •Women are entitled to complete and accurate information on their full range of options for pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding. •Women have a right to make health care decisions for themselves and their babies. That right includes Informed Consent as well as Informed Refusal. ABOUT US Nashville BirthNetwork was founded in March 2007 by concerned Childbirth Professionals in the Nashville area. We currently host monthly meetings for Consumers as well as quarterly meetings for Birth Professionals and those with an interest in Birth Advocacy.
